If your family is trying to decide where to travel this summer, let me save you some scrolling… Pigeon Forge is one of those destinations that truly has something for everyone.
As a mom of four boys, I’m always looking for places that actually work for families—not just places that look good online. We recently spent time exploring some of the most fun, family-friendly attractions in the Smoky Mountains while staying at The Resort at Governor’s Crossing, and honestly… this trip checked every box for us. From mountain views and indoor attractions to racing, mini golf, waterparks, and family fun around every corner, here are some of the best summer spots families should absolutely add to their bucket list.
Why Families Love Pigeon Forge During Summer
One thing I love about this area is that families can truly choose their own pace.
You can spend the morning racing go-karts, cool off at a waterpark in the afternoon, then end the night with mountain views, snacks, and family time together. It’s one of the few destinations where toddlers, big kids, teens, and parents can all genuinely have fun together without someone feeling left out. And parents know the REAL win? Everyone is still happy by dinner.
Another thing that makes this area easier for families is how close so many attractions are to each other. You’re not constantly driving long distances between activities, which honestly makes a huge difference when traveling with kids.
Summer afternoons can definitely get busy, so mixing indoor attractions with outdoor adventures helps balance the trip really well—especially with unpredictable mountain weather.
Where We Stayed: The Resort at Governor’s Crossing
Before we even get into the attractions, let’s talk about where we stayed because this resort made family travel feel EASY. One thing I noticed immediately? SPACE. When you’re traveling with multiple kids, that matters more than anything. The suites gave our family room to spread out, relax, and actually enjoy downtime between activities. The bunk beds were an instant hit with the boys, and having a full kitchen made a huge difference for quick breakfasts, snacks, and family meals. But honestly? The real stars during summer are the waterparks.

The resort features both indoor and outdoor waterparks, which means weather doesn’t completely ruin your plans. Between splash areas, slides, pools, daily activities, arcades, and evening family fun, there was always something happening without us needing to constantly leave the property.
Kids these days really be living their best lives. And the location? Super convenient to everything.
If your goal is finding a resort where kids stay entertained while parents can actually breathe a little… this is a solid choice for families visiting the Smoky Mountains this summer.
NASCAR SpeedPark

If your kids love competition, speed, or anything involving racing, this place is going to be a favorite. One thing I appreciated about NASCAR SpeedPark is that it’s more than just one track. Families can spend HOURS here between the different go-kart tracks, rides, games, and attractions.
Our oldest was fully convinced he was taking home the checkered flag all day long. The Smoky Mountain Speedway ended up being one of the biggest highlights because it really gives that full racing experience families are looking for during summer vacations. This is definitely one of those places where your kids will ask to go back before you even leave the parking lot.
Toy Box Mini Golf

This may have been one of the most visually fun places we visited. Toy Box Mini Golf is known as the world’s first toy-themed mini golf course, and honestly, the creativity here makes it stand out from typical mini golf spots. The oversized toys, bright colors, interactive elements, and playful setup made this feel like more than just mini golf. It kept the kids engaged the entire time—which parents know is the real win. It’s also one of those attractions that photographs REALLY well if you’re trying to capture fun family vacation memories.
Hollywood Wax Museum Entertainment Center

This ended up being way more fun than I expected. The wax figures alone are entertaining, but what makes Hollywood Wax Museum Entertainment Center great for families is that it’s more interactive than people realize. Between posing for photos, exploring the attractions inside, and watching the kids react to seeing their favorite celebrities and characters, this turned into one of those laugh-all-day experiences. If your family likes attractions where everyone can participate together instead of just watching something, definitely add this to your itinerary.
WonderWorks
If you need a good indoor attraction during summer heat or rainy weather, this is a great stop for families. WonderWorks combines interactive exhibits, hands-on activities, games, and challenges that keep kids moving and exploring the entire visit. The ropes course alone had our boys excited. I also love attractions like this for families with different age ranges because there’s enough variety for everyone to enjoy something.

Pigeon Forge Snow
Yes… snow in the middle of summer. That alone makes Pigeon Forge Snow worth mentioning because it’s such a unique experience for families visiting during warmer months.
The indoor snow tubing was a huge hit with our boys, and honestly, it was nice escaping the summer heat for a little while too. This is one of those attractions kids will probably talk about long after vacation ends.
The Island in Pigeon Forge

This quickly became one of our favorite places to slow down after busy attraction days.
The Island in Pigeon Forge has shops, snacks, entertainment, family activities, and one of the best evening atmospheres for families in the area. At night, the lights and fountain shows make everything feel even more fun and relaxing. Sometimes families need those slower moments between all the major attractions, and this was the perfect place for that.
Three Bears General Store
This ended up being one of those unexpected family stops that the kids really enjoyed.
Between the snacks, souvenirs, toys, and fun atmosphere, Three Bears General Store is a great place to explore in between attractions. Honestly, places like this become part of the memories too.
Gatlinburg SkyPark
The views alone make this worth experiencing at least once. Taking the chairlift up the mountain instantly became one of those core memory moments for our family. Once you reach the top, the mountain views are absolutely beautiful during summer. There’s just something about being above the Smoky Mountains with your family that slows everything down for a minute. For families visiting the area, Gatlinburg SkyPark gives you a completely different experience from the rides and attractions in town.
Anakeesta

If your family loves outdoor adventure mixed with beautiful views, shopping, food, and activities all in one place, Anakeesta deserves a spot on your list. This is one of those attractions where you can easily spend an entire evening exploring. The mountain atmosphere feels magical at night, especially once the lights come on. There’s a good mix of activities for both kids and adults, which makes it easier for families with different age ranges to all enjoy themselves.
And honestly? The mountain views at sunset are hard to beat.
